Conventions

In October 1629, the 5th year of the reign of Charles 1st, Pant-y-Llwyn was sold by the widow of Jevan Morgan, Gwenlian verch Rytherch and her son John ap Jevan to William Morgan of Therrow. The price of the property was 100 Marks. A Mark was 160 pence and a pound being 240 pence, 100 Marks was therefore equivalent to £66 13s 4d which in 2007 terms was worth £9,650.02 using the retail price index or £123,386.09 using average earning.

This indenditure made the first day of October in the fifte[5th] yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of god of England Scotland France and Ireland kinge defender of
the faith Betweene Gwenlian Rytherch of Ystradveltey in the County of Brecon widow And John ap Jevan of Ystradveltey before said yeoman of the one p[ar]te And William Morgan of the
middle Temple London esqs of the other p[ar]te. Witnesseth that the said Gwenlian Rytherch and John ap Jevan agree for and in consideration of the summe of one hundred Markes of
good and lawfull mony of England to them the said Gwenlian Rytherch and John ap Jevan by the said William Morgan in hand paied before the Seal[i]nge and Delivery of these p[r]{e}senters whereof and
whereso[th] then the said Gwenlian Rytherch and John ap Jevan acknowledge themselves fully satisfied contented and payed and thereof and of owening p[ar]te and p[ar]cel thereof Doe fulley cleerly
and absolutely brouite equinerale and discharge the said William Morgan his heirs executors administrators and assignes forever any these p[re]sents as and for Diverse other good causes
and valuable considerations them thereunto especially moveinge have given granted aliened bargained sould, insealled and confirmed. And by these p[re]sentes doe give grant alien bargaine see enseatle
and confirme unto the said William Morgan his heirs and assigns forever all that mesuage and tenement of lands w[i]th appurtenances situate and lyeinge and beinge in the p[ar]ish of Ystradcellty
aforesaid and com[m]only called or knowne by the Name of Tye Pante yr Loyne nowe or later in the teanures or occupation of the said John ap Jevan and Gwenlian or one of them their
or one of their underten[an]te or underten[an]ts or Asignes or Togeather with all lands Meadowes leafowes, pastures, woodes, underwoodes, wastes wayes easements profited commodities heredi
tamential and advantages whatsoever unto the said Mesuage or tenement of lande Ancidente belonge  or in himiewise appurtaineinge or accepted reputed knowne or taken as p[ar]te p[ar]cl
or Member thereof: And the intention and intentions of Remaindere and remainderes all and singular the p[rem]ises with their and every of their appurtanances. all which p[re]mises extend a
themselfes in height from the lande there called Tyre yr Crinoes unto the lande there called Tye Maese Porth And in breadth frome the river there called Nante Carred unto the
Landes sometimes the lands of Rice ap Morgan . Togeather will all deeds, charters, evedences, writings, escripts and minumentes toucheinge ore concerninge the pr[em]ises only or any p[ar]te or p[ar]cele
Thereof. To have and to hold the said messuage or tenement of lands meadowes leafowes pastured, woodes, underwoodes, deedes, evedences and coritinges and all and singular other
The pr[e]mises hereby bargained and sould or intended to be bargained and sould whith these and every of theire appurtenances unto the said William Morgan his heires and assignes forever
To the only pray use and behuoffe of him the said William Morgan his heirs and assignes forever. and the said Gwenlian Rytherch and J[o]hn ap: Jevan doe forther suffer theise heires executors
And Assignes covenante promise guauntie and gree to and with the said William Morgan his heirs executors and assignes by these presents in maner and forme foloweinge That is to saie ~
that the said Gwenlian Rytherch and John ap: Jevan at the very time of the sealing and delivering of these presents are or one of them is and until ane absolute estate in the law in fee
simple of all singular the premises hereby bargained and sould or intended to be bargained and soulde with these and every of these apurtennences shalle rested settled and ~
executed in the said William Morgan his heires and assignes for ever according to the true intente and meaneing of these presents are and shalle and contineue lawfully seised of
and in the premises and of every p[ar]te and p[a]rcl thereof hereby mentioned to be bargained and sould of a good lawful absolute and indefinable estate in the lawe in fee simple to them and
theire heires forever without any manner of condition or limitation of any use or uses power of retroaction , or other matter, or thing, whatsoever hereby to alter, change or determine
the estate or estates use or uses for in and by these presents created lymited and appointed And that the said Gwenlian Rytherch and John ap: Jevan are or one of them is at the sealeinge
or delivers of those presents and until the full execution hereof shall have full power, good right, and lawfull authoritie to the graunt bargaine and sell the aforesaid
messuage or tenement of lands and offer the aforesaid bargained premises with theire apurtenences unto the said William Morgan his heirs and assignes forever and further
that the said William Morgan his heires and assignes forever hereafter shall and may peaceably and quietly have hould occupie possesse and Injoye the said Messuadge, or
tenement of land hereby bargained and sould or Intended to be bargained and sould w[i]th  thereine and every of their appurtenances without any mannor of lawfull lett suite trouble, Interruption
Denial molestation exppultion eviction or ejection of the said Gwenlian Rytherch and John ap: Jevan theire heires and assignes or of any other p[er]sones whatsoever And furthermore
that the said p[re]mises shalle and remaine unto the said William Morgan his heires and assigns for ever freely clearely and absolutely acquitted exonerated and for ever dischardged or
well and sufficiently saved and kepte harmeles of and from all and all maner of former and other bargaines sales leases guiftes grauntes Forfutetures douues and of and from all other
titles, trobles, chardges Encumbrances and demandes whatsoever at any time or times herefore had made done suffered acknowledged or expected or heareafter to be had made done suffered
or executed by the said Gwenlian Rytherch and John ap: Jeven their heires and assignes or by any other p[er]sone or pe[er]sones whatsoever The Cheefe rentes and services from hencefourth
to become due or payable to te chief Lord or Lordes of the ffee or ffees in respecte of the termmes thereof only excepted and the said Gwenlian Rytherch and John ap:
Jevan doe for themselfes theire heirs executors and assignes covernante promise quarante and agree to and with the said William Morgan his heires executors and assignes that the
said Gwenllian Rytherch and John ap: Jevan shall and will at his Maiesties next great Sessions to be houlden for the said Countie of Brecknock before his Maiesties Justices of his Highnes great sessions
