Waterfall Walk

The circular walk from the cottage is less than three and a half miles long and takes in the cave at Porth-yr-Ogof, a walk along by the river on a permitted path and the first two of the waterfalls on the Mellte river.

Waterfall Walk 1: 3.5 Miles

1-2: From the front door of the cottage turn immediately right, up the steps and through the little gate. Turn right along bridleway up to the next farm. At the farm yard gate turn right over the stile.

2-3: Walk through farmyard and down the drive to the road and cross it to the stile immediately opposite.

3-4: Cross the fields following the path on the left hand side to a stone stile into the lane. Walk 50m down the lane. You can visit Porth-yr-Ogof cave below the car-park on the left here. Turn right at the bottom of the lane opposite the car park to follow the dry course of the river over the cave.

4-5: Follow path through light woodland until the river reappears from the resurgence of the cave.

5-6: Follow the permitted path along the edge of the river, eventually following a bend left to reach a foot-bridge.

6-7: Cross the bridge and follow the lower path to visit the first set of falls called "Sgwd Clun-gwyn".

7-8: Walk up the steps and the path to the top of the hill. At the signpost you can divert left to a viewpoint down to the second falls called "Sgwd Isaf Clun-gwyn".

8-9: Return to the signpost and turn left to follow the path past the bunkhouse and up to the small car-park. Turn right up the road for about 100m beyond the cattle grid to the ice-cream shop.

9-1: Follow the road uphill and past the turning to the Nedd valley, then 100m later you can see the cottage across the fields on the left. Follow the road down and up a dip with a farm on the right and the gate to the cottage is on your left.
